Row of BMWs The Driving Machine specializes in BMW and MINI repair. From electrical diagnostics, brakes, cooling system issues, suspension work, regular maintenance etc., we do it all for you and your BMW, using the latest technology, science, and quality parts. In addition to that beautiful engine, let us help you take care of the interior and exterior of your BMW, by offering upholstery repair, body shop referral, and windshield work. Detail service is also available. A free BMW courtesy car is available during your service.

The technicians at The Driving Machine are ASE nationally certified and receive ongoing BMW specific training. The combined knowledge of BMW repair is over 150 years! More than half of the employees have been with The Driving Machine for 12 to 14 years. The Driving Machine Facility

Our History

Row of BMWs The Professional Team at The Driving Machine is led by Master Technician (re-certified 5 times), Jim Payne. Starting in 1976 he worked on BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Rolls Royce cars in Reno, Nevada. After moving to the South Bay and years of working at the local BMW dealerships, Jim started his own shop specializing in BMW repair. The main goal was to help BMW owners enjoy the best driving experience possible in their BMWs by proper maintenance, repair and refurbishing. It was important to Jim to provide a service that was superior to all others. He and his team have maintanined that philosophy of integrity and superior service for over 27 years.

Jim Payne is the current Vice President of the Automotive Service Council of California, Chapter 42, and has served as board member for the past 5 years.

Jim is a chosen volunteer for the NATF (National Automotive Training Foundation). He represents independent automotive expertise in evaluation of the Automotive Program at DeAnza College to maintain their accreditation.

Jim serves on the committee for the DeAnza Automotive Scholarship Awards.

The Driving Machine has been awarded the "Top Shop" Award by Professional Tool and Equipment News publications.

He has been chosen one of the 100 Outstanding Graduates of his Alma Mater, Ranken College, St. Louis, Missouri.
