Flush your brake fluid and stop on a dime
The syndicated automotive news publication Wheelbase Communications, recently conducted some testing that involved both Tire Rack, Goodyear Tire and Brembo brakes. The test results surprised most of the participants due to the fact that there was a substantial difference in braking performance after a routine brake fluid flush. This comes as no surprise to people who love to drive the heck out of their BMW. We’ve known this for some time, but it’s good to see it in black and white.
The new brake fluid enhanced the stopping distance in the tests conducted, “before and after”. That’s because over time, the brake fluid breaks down, heats up and becomes less effective. In other words, after applying the brakes, it takes more distance to stop, (if your brake fluid is old).
BMW has specific recommendations as to when your brake fluid flushes be performed. At minimum, always follow manufacturers guidelines when it comes to all routine service, which may include your brake fluid flush. The brake fluid flush is just one aspect of keeping your brakes working at their optimum stopping capability.
