Keep your foot on the brake and your eyes on your child
It has been almost 3 years since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration signed an agreement with the Alliance of Automotive Manufacturers and AIAM, to insure another safety feature in new vehicles.
It is called the Brake Transmission Interlock System, and its application in cars is to prevent a child from accidentally taking a car out of parking gear by simply moving the shifter of a car with an automatic transmission. A car with the BTIS will require a foot on the brake at the same time, the shifter is being engaged, (preventing a vehicle from moving). BMW’s have had this feature for years, but some manufacturers did not until a few years ago.
We don’t have to give you the sorry stats. Just a friendly reminder; please do not leave a child in any car unattended.
