Plan ahead – get a BMW now
BMW has announced another price increase to be effective October 1, 2008. Of course, this is for 2009 models and the bump will be 2.1% due to the continued rise of raw materials, most notably steel. This is the second increase this year, with an increase previously announced June 2008.
The cost of manufacturing in Germany is continuing to rise, transportation costs to get those cars to the U.S., is ever increasing and of course, the U.S. dollar plays a part in this equation also. It is not just BMW, but many of the car manufacturers are finally passing those cost increases to the consumers. Even the hybrids are going up in price. This is really not surprising when you consider that it’s not just the steel or plastics that are increasing in cost, but the raw materials, and manufacturing costs of those large batteries used in the hybrids has really gone up, too. People are really going to have sticker shock when it comes time to replacing those. People whine about an OE battery in a regular car! (Of course, we don’t mean whine in a bad way).
