Luxury-car manufacturers will have a tough time competing with BMW in 2016. The German-car manufacturer is set to celebrate its 100th birthday, and according to Auto Blog, the planning has already begun.BMW has hinted that the pièce de résistance of the celebration will be the unveiling of a new version of the M4, reportedly called the M4 GTS.

A New Spin on the Classic BMW

This has people talking, because the M4 isn’t even on sale yet. Announcing an even better version of next year’s flagship model definitely has heads turning.

So, what will this newer version of the M4 look like? According to some reports, BMW will be focusing on getting the M4 GTS’s weight under 3,000 pounds. The 2014 model will weigh approximately 3,300 pounds.

To trim that extra 300, the manufacturer plans to remove the rear seats, replace the front fenders and the hood with ones made of carbon fiber and craft the doors with aluminum instead of steel. The interior most likely will sport Alcantara in place of leather.

It’s easy to sympathize for the engineers. The 2014 M4 already will feature thinner glass, lighter seats and lighter wheels. Cutting 300 pounds out of an already light coupe will be tricky.

about. The M4 will deliver 424 horsepower from a twin-turbo, 3.0-liter inline-6 engine that is mostly a new design. The return to the inline, six-cylinder engine has been welcomed by fans of BMW, many of whom resented the fourth-generation M3’s upgrade to the V8.If you can’t wait for the M4 GTS, be consoled by the fact that the M4 will be launched in January at the Detroit Auto Show. Until then, why not break your old BMW out of the garage?  If you’ve got an M3 that needs repairs, look no further. We’re here to help!
