19% of people are using the Internet while driving according to a recent survey by State Farm Insurance Co. 74% reported making or receiving phone calls at least once a week while driving and 35% who reported sending or receiving texts at least that often.

That is not good news! While 11 states enacted bans on texting while driving, 30 states prohibit it for all drivers and 8 more have banned it for novice drivers. Even scarier is that the survey respondents were in their 30’s and we know the age group of cell phone users is younger. So, the percentages could be higher if the the younger set was included.

Wow. Do we need to be extra vigilant while on the road or what! In 2009 alone, 5474 people were killed in the U.S. and 448,000 injured in distracted driving crashes. Sadly, 195 of the fatalities involved a cell phone. This can be avoided right?

We all know how to stop this. JUST say NO. Don’t text, surf the web, or use your cell phone while driving. We want to see you and your MINI or BMW safe. We also prefer not to share the road with texters!
