Nagging now – you will thank me later
Last week, we saw a BMW that had a Belt Idler Pulley Bearing that had failed and separated, (cutting through belts, and automatic transmission hoses), resulting in complete loss of fluid and the possibility of a destroyed transmission. In another situation, a water pump bearing failed which allowed the fan blades to contact the radiator and that created a radiator failure! Obviously, these may sound like extreme situations. But, more obviously, these BMWs had not had any attention for a long period of time, (other than filling the gas tank and a wash).
If those items had been reviewed (during routine inspection), and were found to be loose or in bad condition, (and you authorized the repair), chances are excellent, that you would not have a damaged radiator. But, now, instead of just one item needing to be replaced, there are multiple. Unfortunately, that means, your repair is going to take longer and also be more expensive, (besides the towing fee). That never makes anyone happy and please, don’t shoot the messenger!
That’s why, once again, for all of you who are new to the Blog, we are reminding you to get your BMW or MINI checked out by a professional who knows what to look for, before it “goes”. There have been numerous studies that have detailed the cost factors of “maintenance vs. repair”. Maintenance is less expensive than “repair”. We hope the above dramatic, (but true), tales will help illustrate that fact, for you.
