The best motor oils for your BMW and MINI are going to be those that meet BMW and MINI specified recommendations. Pure and simple. More expensive than your run of the mill oil? Yes.

Using the wrong oil such as one with a low viscosity or one that has depleted it’s maximum usage can lead to metal to metal contact of moving parts causing excessive wear resulting in premature damage to critical parts. Using an oil with a higher viscosity will cause excessive drag and the result will be less miles per gallon.

For those clients of ours who are engineers, (and we know there are a lot of you out there), you probably understand the importance of using the correct lubricant oil in your BMW and/or MINI. For the rest of you, we have got a great article from Motor Magazine to share with you.

It might seem a bit techy to some of you, but there are some good illustrations that explain the reasons for always following the manufacturers suggestions for motor oil. With so many people spending their hard earned dollars ever so sparingly, here are the main reasons not to just “cheap out” when it comes to your motor oil.

You can find more information on Making Sense of Viscosity in Motor Magazine.
